Hi there
God I am so fed up with my bank!!! ( Yorkshire Bank) Have gone overdrawn due to financial problems which we have told the bank about and they agreed to increase our overdraft, but we mistakely thought 2 cheques had been already paid out ( car repairs!) and we have been charged 2 lots of 35 quid for the cheques not getting paid and also 8.00 overdraft fee! Not really helping us really get out of this debt!
We are going to pay off our overdraft in next mth due to alot of overtime, so we are going to finish with Yorkshire, and close the acct, and then set about reclaiming all my bank charges!
Just a pain having to set up all direct debits etc thought with new bank so if anyones got any recommendations for a good bank that are good at helping out with the switch let me know!

Liz

oooohhh this is a easy one . FIRST DIRECT is who you need . no questions

ring them up ( no holding, no automation, uk only call center) tell them you want a current account answer some set up questions they do the rest.

plus you get £50 !!!! throw in a fat guy in red suit and you would have christmas it is so good

no hassel with Direct debits they get a list from your old account you check and sign they move the lot . will also tell your old bank they are taking this customer so please close the account.

So easy ( i know we have moved 2 accounts to them this year, ZERO problems both times and quick) and they are THE BEST for service and customer care. trust me it is how banking should be conducted . it is no hollow boast about the most recommened bank .....they really are THAT GOOD

don,t anyone below this say the word A+L or smile or nationwide they do not compare in customer sevice

P.S ignore the age old thread on this board about the avoid FD £10 charge it was a Total RED HERRINGit ain,t happened it ain,t gonna happen and even if it did you can move (Very reluctantly) then. meantime you can set you new account up tonight ( they are open 24/7 )

The problem here for the OP is that First Direct will also charge default fees if you don't comply with the T&C's. They may also not be as accommodating as Yorkshire Bank have been in trying to help you through your "financial problems" - simply because you have no history with them yet.

I'm sorry to be blunt, but it sounds like Yorkshire Bank listened to your needs, provided for them, and still you didn't watch your spending.

Every bank you go with will treat you the same I'm afraid. Better the devil you know?

yorkshire boy any connection with Yorkshire bank ???? i refer you to the caption on my logo sir

if as you say you are getting to grips with your situation give yorkshire the wellie and join us happy people who bank with first direct. any bank will charge for mis use but sounds to me you have used all your life lines with yorkshire anyway.

besides which you can talk to a human being at first direct not jobs worth at the branch or answer machine with yorkshire . ( i know i went in Yorkshire for a auntie once and they were rude and inept)

    http://www.firstdirect.com/rates/charges.shtml:

    Charges for excess overdrafts

If during any statement month your overdraft exceeds the agreed limit, an Overdraft Fee (£30) will be incurred for the first day the excess occurs. In addition, an Excess Overdraft Fee (£25) will be incurred for each subsequent day during the same statement month that further debits increase the excess, or an excess recurs after the overdraft has been brought back within the agreed limit

The return of cheques, standing orders and direct debits unpaid owing to lack of funds or available overdraft will be charged at; £15 where the total value of the items is less than £40 and £37.50 where the total value of the items is £40 or more.
:D I don't have any connection with either FD or YBank

The bottom line is that ALL the banks are imposing unlawful penalty charges.

If you are going to apply for a first direct account, go through one of the cash back sites, you get £45 through quidco I believe!

First Direct are one of the worst for these fees!

My partner went £7 over his limit for two days and was charged a total of £105 in charges and fees!
