Hiya, just wondering if anyone has any experience of doing their gift list through HoF? Really at a loss of which store to go through but can't find any reviews for them which doesn't fill me confidence!
Thanks

I debated between them and John Lewis but we went with cash in the end, but I think seeing as they are a well-known and reputable shop, you're probably safe0

do house of fraser sell the types of things that your freiends and family will want to buy you for a wedding present?
if the answer is yes then they are probably worth having a look at in terms of gift lists...
I recently went to a wedding where the gift list was john lewis but sadly the bride had not really chosen well with her gifts and a week before the wedding many people had opted out of the list in favour of vouchers/cash as I assume they felt that the gifts listed were too expensive or didnt match what they would like to give as a gift....
Lots of couples spend a long time setting up lists that guests either buy only the cheaper things or dis regard the list totally...
It was a real shame for the bride whose wedding I went to as she had split many things down into small sets like 6 x teaspoons or 6x knives of a particular pattern etc only to find that some peiople bought the knives...but the forks were unpurchased...meaning that in order to complete the sets of cutlery she was going to have to do that herself...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
i just think wedding gist lists are greedy and if people want to give us a present then it should be something they want to give us and if they can't think of anything and still want to give us a present then they can give vouchers or money. We're really not bothered about presents although it will be lovely if people do want to give us something. We're not getting married to get presents and putting a list of things you want in with an invitation (where people may have to spend money on travel, accommodation adn new clothes) is a bit rude to me. I just want my friends to be there to celebrate us getting married and have a lovely party.0

I dont think that was very helpful. Nobody gets married to get presents!!!
We're having a gift list because I know my family and if I dont put it in, I'll get a hundred phone calls saying "Where's your list registered?...What do you want?....Why haven't you put your list in the invites?..."
The OP asked for advice about whether they had good reviews, not your opinion on whether to have one or not...
Sorry OP, I don't know if they're any good or not but I agree with an above poster that they are a reputable company and so I feel can be trusted with your list. No reviews is a good thing to me. Nothing bad to be said maybe? What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
sorry, don't mean to upset anyone. They are just one of my wedding bugbears along with wedding favours!
If you want to have a gift list then go for it and House of Fraser have lovely things, it's one of my favourite shops. Hope you get lots of lovely presents and have a lovely wedding xxx0 -
Thanks for the replies. As pointed out, we're obviously not getting married for the presents and we didn't actually want to go with a giftlist originally. Since then so many people have been asking us what they could get us etc that we thought it would be an easier option for them. Think we might go with them, as you said picklepick, maybe there just isn't anything bad to be said.
Thanks again.0 -
we signed up for the debs one cos they gave us a £50 giftcard providing over £200 was spent on the gift list. Sounds alot but we managed to get them to add our flowergirl dresses and my mums outfit onto the list, even though it was already paid for, so we have qualified for the £50 giftcard, without having to get guests to buy things

Oooh, I'm loving this idea. How did you manage to get these on the gift list?

we took the receipts to the wedding service and said that we had been told that anything we buy for the wedding, could then be added onto the gift list and automatically marked as "bought" - really good idea!!0

No experience of setting a gift list (yet), but I bought things from a House of Fraser wedding list this year.
The only thing that bugged me as a guest, is that you couldn't pick something from the list and take it back with you so that you can wrap it up nicely... When you buy the item online, all the gifts get delivered to the couple in one go, which loses a bit of the gift giving experience for me.
There again it might have to do with the way the bride and groom set the list up.
I know that with Debenhams, you can get the item in the shop, they 'tick' it off the list and you take it with you on the day.
Hope it helps a bit.:grinheart It's Mrs Coupon now - saving and comping my way to a brighter future :grinheart0
