I still use them because I can label them - on a flash drive I cannot figure out what files I've stored unless I open them.studentphil wrote:Does anyone still use them and if so why?0 -

Manage your files in folders on your pen drive and give files names so you know what they are and you will be away.:beer:0 -
I sometime used them, but they are so slow. Move a file to them and you have time to go and make a cup of tea and maybe a snack. The reason why I usethem is because its better for security because the data goes over time.0

I meant the USB pen disk when I said flash drive. But I'd still need to fix them onto the PC/Laptop everytime I need to check what files I've saved even though they're all named. Whereas on a floppy - I label them and can find what I look for without having to even switch on my PC.studentphil wrote:Manage your files in folders on your pen drive and give files names so you know what they are and you will be away.
Well the problem is I have a few of those pen discs, some with pictures and some with my husbands' files and most with my University notes. I use/d floppy discs mostly for CV's and coursework0 -

That is a very good point- easy finding of stored material without a PC- but if you have a huge USB pen then you can store all your files in one thing and be sure where everything is. But if you lose that pen or it break and you have not backed up all the files you are stuffed.:beer:0 -
Thanks button does not work on uni browser- so thanks to meher
and I will click thanks when I am at home!:beer:0 -
I've aslo noticed that some central and University libraries still have ancient PCs and they don't have USB ports. I always carry with me a floppy as well as the pen when I'm visiting the library.studentphil wrote:That is a very good point- easy finding of stored material without a PC- but if you have a huge USB pen then you can store all your files in one thing and be sure where everything is. That is true if you have an old computer USB pens might not work. Not everyone and everywhere has a band new computer as there is no need for a lot of people to have all the latest kit.:beer:0
