  • Hi
As a forces wife, my best advice is please do not send unsolicited goodwill parcels (this delays presents and mail from family members). Instead make a donation to a charity such as UK4U.org which specialise in arranging Christmas parcels for forces on op tours.
The British Legion website has some useful information here http://www.britishlegion.org.uk/about-us/media-centre/news/general/christmas-parcels-advice-for-armed-forces-on-operations .
    Hope this helps.

Sending Parcels is a good idea, but it also clogs up the BFPO postal system.

Alot of families will be sending packages to family members overseas, and random members of the public sending parcels puts extra strain on the system.

Sending parcels to persons overseas is a good idea, but I think that they should hold them back untill the new year has passed, so mummy & daddy can open cards from daughters/son's on Christmas Day.
  • Just to echo other comments really!

My husband is in Afghanistan now and the post is taking forever to get to him- somewhere between 3 and 6 weeks on average (he jsut got the parcel our chidlren made in half term!)- so my plea is please don't clog up the system now- with parcels- I -like many other families of serving personnel are concerend my husband will not get the cards and Christmas goodies from my children and myself this Christmas and would ask anyone thinking of such a kind gesture to please not do it- but also highlight that the fact you can only send parcels to a named person. But maybe as others have suggested please donate money to any of the miliray charities.. or give the money to a local chairty.
  • Hiya

Support our Soldiers (www.supportoursoldiers.co.uk) is a registered charity that sends parcels out throughout the year to servicemen and women, with the authorisation of the MOD.

The MOD also informs us to hold off parcels etc, if transport will be busy with various operations etc, and we work to guidelines to ensure that the mail and presents from family do not get disrupted.

    Hope that this helps xx
  • I think that its great you want to help make one the troops christmas a little happier by sending gifts. Shows people think of them. I would donate the money to UK4U.org When my hubby was away over xmas he recieved a parcel from and though it was great. Infact still has the box and uses the stuff he was sent.
The bfpo system is extremely busy now, I live in Cyprus and its taking alot longer to get any post here.
Again I want to say its great you are thinking of the troops and hope more people do the same!!
