Moms penalised by parking ticket at Swindon Oasis

My wife took the children to Oasis in Swindon today and picked up a ticket PCN, :( , despite the fact that the parking is supposedly free for the first 3 hours. With the kids distracting her she didn't pick up that she had to display a ticket on the car. One hour later she had a ticket. She went back to the machine afterwards and still couldn't work it out. I've checked online and can see that another poor mom has also been caught out in the same way. Only trying to get kids to exercise..

Apparently Swindon council were trying to catch commuters who might have left their cars all day there, but instead are catching out Moms and penalising them.

Has anyone got a view whether this is contestable. She can prove it with receipts from the swimming pool, but I doubt appealling to their sensibilities or sense of fairness will work.

Any thoughts appreciated..

Sadly this is not a dedicated Council PCN fightback website, hence the lack of replies in 24 hours. Pepipoo is the forum for you as they are a dedicated fightback forum for motorists:

    http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showforum=30

Read the FAQs and stickies, and a few threads to get the gist. Then register and post your pictures of the PCN front and back (all the small print but blank out car ID and PCN number). Also pics of the bay, signs and lines, all pics would be useful. See the sticky threads on how to post pictures on there.

'If at first you don't succeed, try, try again' is the motto for appealing a Council PCN.

Most Councils decline almost every informal appeal but that doesn't mean you haven't got a case, so tell her she will probably get a glib 'no' in response at first. Councils like to play a game of bluff - so call their bluff with help from pepipoo posters, to hopefully win the case at formal rep stage or with an adjudicator.

Good luck. MOST cases on pepipoo win, the vast majority in fact. :)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • If it helps, I appealed informally to, two london borough couuncils recently after receiving PCN's so sometimes informal challenges are up holded, but this might be because the driver was registered disabled. You should register on the forum below, but if you dont, you should appeal informally during the first fourteen days. if the council rejects your informal appeal, you will get the 14 days back to pay at the 50% reduced rate.

The car did not have a ticket displayed, however, you say you have a swim reciept which has the time stamped. any parking officer can see this is proof of time, but it does not proof the car was in the car park for less than three hours!!
Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!
