Facebook Account help

I just logged in to my facebook to find a message saying they were concerned about activity on my account and it was locked.

I had to verify my friends names from their pictures to prove it was me on the account.

Then it went to the next step saying my account had been accessed by a user from the USA in Illanois.

My facebook account had nothing really important on, just regular pics of me and my family etc. But what worries me is there any chance the "hacker" could have access to any other accounts like paypal or poker accounts?

I was travelling on the ferry in July between Larne & Streanrear & used the ships wireless internet thingy.I got the same thing as you when I tried to access FB,which was a pain in the !!! as I didn't know half the photo's they put up!
  • If you've used Facebook etc on a public hotspot there is a chance someone hijacked your connection. Google "firesheep" - there isn't a lot you can do about it (but it is possible to browse from a hot spot securely with some extra work).
  • I havn't ever used it from anywhere other than my house. I have a wired internet connection.

after I unlocked it and changed my password it showed a map and said "we registered the activity from Chicago Illanois USA"

I live in Stoke on Trent, UK.

Is there any reason to worry about my other online accounts?
  • Just to be safe I would change the passwords on all my other accounts if I were you.

How would naming people in photo's prove you are you?

I have tons of "friends" on my facebook account, But i did not register with my real name i use an alias
as do the real friends on there, Also a lot of the other friends are strangers who added me because you needed
50 friends/neighbours to advance in farmville.

Surely to verify your account they would ask you your security questions you created when you signed up.

Are you on AOL? Some scans detected me as being in the US because their servers are/were. Could be just the way
your internet routed to the website.

    I would change passwords ASAP.
