It it usual practice for these money leeching Mofo's to increase a persons bloody premium when you notify them about a change of address for car insurance?
We've just moved to a quiet better area and i was charged 40% extra on my premium (so i told them to sod off, cancelled the insurance and got it £150 cheaper with RSA echoice)
Also my son who is paying £2000 already for his first car had to pay £35 more, yet we get online on a site like go compare and it comes out the same if not cheaper...are they on some sort of fiddle here?

Yes it's usual with nearly all insurers to pay an admin charge when you make changes to your policies. Search here to find loads of rants.
If you had read your policy before you bought it you would have known all about it.
(And a quieter better area is often more expensive as there are better pickings for the thieves, and less people are keeping a look out on your property)0 -
Motor Insurance is rated on several things, including the area in which the car is garaged. That will be the main reason for the increase, although a small admin. charge may also be involved. Your reference to "moved to a quiet better area" is your personal description. Insurance companies simply follow their own claims experience by postcode.0

So why then, when you put the new address details on a site such as "go compare" the new quiet better area you have moved to IS reflected in the quotes given?
It's only the insurance company i was with at the time decided to turn a £280 premium to a £400 one...
the quotes i was getting on line were in the region of £210 - £240...that's why i told them to shove it!0 -
It's usual. You're lucky to get anything back.
They're hoping inertia will keep you with them. But either way you lose.
Either a massive increase in premium, and a huge admin charge.
If you pay it, well and good, if you cancel, you get a small refund as you are then put on a short term insurance premium, and pay a huge cancellation charge.0 -
It is not normal to increase it change it yes.
When I was hopping between Brimingham and Norfolk the agreement I had with my insurers was I would have the car registered where it spent most of its time in any year (change it at the start of the year) and Norfolk was half the price of Birmingham.
When I changed it back last time to Birmingham (part way through a year) for the last time it went up 3 fold.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -

That sounds like a typical rate for an insurance company.0 -
What you consider a better area could mean more thefts etc to the insurer if nicer cars are being parked there etc. Address is rated on and if lots of claims have happened in your area unfortunately it will be rated on... When you get new quotes its not a true reflection as they just include massive new customer discounts. That's why many insurers are at a loss0
