My solictor is charging £35
to fill out the SDLT form. Has anyone filled out out themselves rather than get their solictor and hence save on costs?
How easy is it to fill one out?
thanks in advance for any replys!

I did mine myself and it was easy. You just need to make sure you have the guidance notes alongside you as you are filling it in. Definitely worth saving the £35, it only took about half an hour.0

We did ours in our first purchase and will do it again if and when we get that far with our current purchase.
Print off the notes as someone else said you will need them but its quite easy!House purchase completed 6th December whole process took 4 months.
Hang in there everyone it is worth it0 -

Hi Ghostdog
SDLT is the stamp duty form that you/ solcitor fills in and sends off to the inland revenue. Has to be done within 30 days of completion.0 -
Thanks Star Buck. I'm learning slowly here! So much to take in and try and remember!0

HMRC (formerly Inland Revenue) have help on their website and all of the forms that need to be filled in.

We decided to get our solicitor to do ours - it was £50 +VAT for my solicitor but overall, the solicitor was still reasonably priced and I didn't want to mess it up. There's a fine if it's not done within 30 days of the purchase (completion).Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
Is it a freehold property? I only ask cause I'm not to clever on the leasehold ones and usually ask someone to check when I'm done. If you want some help let me know!0
