Smelly Chicken

Doesn't sound good but to be honest I think most supermarket pre packed meat smells pretty unpleasant compared to fresh from the butchers.
I would take it back to Tesco.0 -
Take them back! No question!0

Take them back and complain loudly!!!
I took some milk back to tesco that had practically turned to cheese and the lady behind the counter said "we don't sell that here". It was the ONE milk with the purple top. I told her they did. She finally agreed and then tried to make out that I had put it in the freezer and that is why it had separated!
Eventually she agreed that I could have a replacement!
It was hard work, but I would do it again, they cannot be allowed to get away with shoddiness.

Glad you binned them. I ate a chicken breast a few weeks ago on the last day of the sell by date. It smelled and tasted fine, but I was very ill for the next two days, and that was the only thing it could have been (mind you I have a very delicate tummy)
As for meals for tonight, when I was a kid a friend's mum used to make a fabulous fish pie using tinned salmon, cheese sauce and topped with mashed potatoes (though I suspect it would also be great with pasta mixed in instead). I can still remember now how nice it tasted, though my mum would never make it for me because she was a bit of a snob about tinned fish.0 -
If theyre 'in date' always take them back to the store (I relasie it's too late for you this time).
Morrisons seem particularly bad for this. We've had chicken breasts, pieces and a whole chicken that this has happened to. We took them all back at the time and opened the stinking bag in front of CS... one whiff and a quick check of the date and they refunded immediately."The reasonable man adapts to the world,

Ideas for dinner now
I have lots of veg, jacket spuds, no meat out the freezer, erm.... timmed salmon and sardines, cheese, chips, baked beans...
Comfort food to cheer you up -- jacket spud with beans and cheese!"Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience." Anon.0 -
I had a similar problem recently with chicken from Sainsburys. I binned it because of the awful stench. Went to Sainsburys next day and there was nothing they could do as I hadn't taken the rotten meat back to them as proof - so I lost out on about £6.00 worth of "fresh" chicken breast. Although, to be fair, I shop at Sainsburys a lot (my nearest store) and have never had any problems with meat prior and since this incident.0

I would have binned the lot. Salmonella, Listeria and E-Coli.
A lovely cocktail for anyone.
I ate some dodgy chicken from a local takeaway a couple of years back and got MILD Gastroenteritis. I didn't b****y feel mild i can tell you. Being a bloke, getting wind was quite funny at first but after 8 hours of constant far***g, it aint no joke, and i still suffer the effects from it now. I used to have 'cast-iron guts' according to my Mum but not anymore.
Thanks local take away i shall not name BUT LETS JUST SAY IT WASN'T 'lOVELY' OK?:(
Tesco should refund your money, no question.
Incidentally, the best supermarket for refunds in my experience is Sainsbury's.
If it helps?0 -
Having only needed to fend for myself for the last 6 months, when it comes to chicken is any smell bad or just trust your nose..there are smells and bad smells.
Having said that I have nothing but problems with Tesco chicken..whether we get it ourselves or get it delivered it never seems to last to the sell by or use by dates.
My fridge is digital so i know the temperature is fine...i think some more complaining will have to beginDebt Free Marathon: Start 01/06/09 £16714 - Current Position £14514 - Finish Line Xmas 20100
