You need to connect your TomTom to your PC and go here to download the update to TomTom version 6: http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17
This updates the application only. To get the updated maps, you need to buy the pre-installed TomTom maps mini SD card (comes with standard SD card adapter too) - sorry!
