to be entitled to WTC she needs to be working 16hrs min a week

if you want an additional £800 a year, then she needs to be working over 30hrs a week

so working 32hrs a week she is on about £9500, which should equate to about £6.5k in CTC/WTC a year

however, there is very little difference in entitlement to CTC/WTC for someone who earns between £5-£10K (about £500 difference), so if you think someone who earns £5k get £6.6k in tax credits, but someone who earns £10k gets £6k, then its not worth dropping the hours/income

so in your situation, you would be worse off financially if her wages ever drop (due to reduction in hours), as you loose the income, but still get the same amount of tax credits

According to this if your gf works less then 30 hours a week then you may not get 30 hour element worth about £790.
