LV home insurance

Hi
Just a warning to others:
We just received our home insurance renewal with LV. Good price - in fact less than last year, however they appear to have increased their security requirements - we had a note with our renewal stating that ALL exit doors must meet certain security specification (whereas only the main exit door did previously). This does appear to be a general condition, not specific to us (however I can't be sure) and we have not made a claim in the last year. Two of our exit doors do not have these specifications and so we need to get them replaced
Although I don't have a problem with this in general, the issue is that LV only give 28 days after the renewal date to get this done which is not enough time. We have booked someone to replace the doors, however they cannot come until the third week in January. They advise that after that 28 days, we are not covered for theft or attempted theft whilst the house is unoccupied which will basically mean that my husband and I cannot both go out at the same time for three weeks!
I am not sure why LV couldn't have given more notice to its customers - although we cannot get someone to fit the new doors for a while, we do at least have enough money to pay for them whereas others I suspect might need time to save up for this type of expense.
So, if you have home insurance with LV and your exit doors do not all have the full high security spec, you might want to contact them in advance of your renewal to check - don't be caught out like us!

Have you tried going back to them and asking them to quote you for insurance cover without the increased security requirements? I bet they'll offer you similar cover and the increase will be marginal.....0

We did speak to them to advise that we couldn't get the new doors until January to ask for an extension to the 28 days - they said no. Not very helpful in my opinion!0

Try going online with them and getting a quote for brand new policy. Interesting to see how the terms can vary and the premiums come down.
Also look at the level of contents cover you need. They have several thresholds below each of which which the security requirements drop, so get an online quote then experiment ny amending the contents cover to find the maximum they allow before putting the extra security requirements in place.0 -
I use LV for Home Cover, my policy does not mention " door " types, just that locks must meet a given standard, which they do.
No need to change a door if it is only the lock that needs changing.0 -
If they have placed a warranty on the policy regarding locks then theft will only not be covered if these are material to the claim. For example, if thieves broke in through an upper floor window it wouldnt matter if you had the wrong locks in place, a claim could not be avoided on breach of warranty grounds.0
