Keep your old prices whilst you move suppliers
Options
Hi All
please see below regarding the e-mail traffic between myself and BG. I am moving to EDF as they are fixing their prices until March at least...
Me to BG...
Hi, According to my research, under Ofgem rules, energy companies cannot enforce their price rises if a customer tells them that they reject the rise within 20 working days of receiving a letter about it. Once customers have informed the supplier that they reject the price rise, they must make arrangements to switch suppliers within 15 working days. The switch will then take around six weeks, during which time the customer will continue to enjoy the lower price. Depending on how long it takes suppliers to inform customers about prices changes, this entire process could last as long as 20 weeks, during which time customers should continue to enjoy their current energy prices, including British Gas's cheapest Websaver tariffs. I am not sure if you are sending out letters as I have been notified by e-mail.I have now opted to move to a new energy supplier and hence I am rejecting the planned price rise and wish to remain on the current prices until my move to my new supplier is complete. Please let me know if you require this in writing and if so to who and where to address it to. Regards
BG to Me....
I'm sorry for the delay in replying to your enquiry.
I'm sorry you have chosen to leave British Gas, as a valued customer we're sorry to see you go. I sincerely hope that you will consider us for your energy requirements in the future. We have a number of great tariffs available and we're always adding new offers and services.
As you’ve let us know you’re transferring to another supplier we’ll charge you on our pre 10 December 2010 rates until the day you leave us.
To make sure this happens we need to receive notification from your new supplier within 15 working days from today. If we don’t, we’ll charge you on our new rates from 10 December 2010 until your transfer date so please make sure your transfer is going ahead.
Please keep checking online and if I am able to help please do not hesitate to contact me directly, by replying to this email, and I will be delighted to personally deal with your enquiry.
Kind regards
Liza Stainsby

This is nothing new, its been available for a while and has been mentioned here numerous times before.
Nothing wrong with bring it back up though.
Only thing I'd add is that this action is only valid for 10 day after you are informed by your current supplier of any changes and they only freeze your prices for 6-8 weeks.0 -
Thank you for your post OP. Was useful to see the wording of your email to British Gas, and also to read their reply.0
