Hello, I am currently renting a property and have moved once in the last 12 months. Can anyone recommend a cheap insurance policy which would follow me round from property to property to just cover my electrical items? Most of my valuables are electrical and I would like to cover them for theft and accidental damage (or is this pointless since its hard to claim and prove it was accidental?). Any advice would be appreciated.

Most insurance policies are portable. If you are renting the entire property and not just a room I would get a standard contents insurance policy and check to see the levels of cover available for electrical items. In terms of where to go the worlds your oyster for contents insurance! Both brokers and Direct companies will offer good quotes. My advice would be to do a quote on a comparison site to get an idea of cost and then contact an insurer that does not appear on comparison sites such as Direct Line or Aviva and maybe ring a local insurance broker. Insurance brokers are usually vey competitive for household insurance and you would have the added advantage of being to discuss any requirements you may have.I am an Insurance & Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Check the charges for mid term adjustments. There will possibly be a fee for this if you change address. Also the new address may attract a different premium to the previous one.
You have the option of cancelling the policy before the 12 months are up and taking out a new one but this will usually incur a fee also.
I don't know that there is any insurer that will just let you transfer your cover from one property to the next without charging you - you would need to compare premiums and any possible subsequent charges.
If you just want cover for specific electrical items you could try googling for "gadget insurance" to insure specific items rather than your whole household contents.
Hope this helps.0
