Markyt wrote:This is what I really do not like about the new system. It has shifted the responsibility to the user and the retailer rather than the bank, yet the bank dictates which systems the retailer must use. The onus is now on the user to prove that they have not broken the security rules, rather than the bank proving that they have. It's impossible for the user to do this, so the bank wins.
I'm not sure I follow you.
Currently it is impossible for there to be chip and pin fraud and the banks want to move completely to that - great idea, I have no problem. For cloned cards using the mag strip info the payment made will almost certainly be refunded unless the pin number is used as well meaning the card holder has not protected their pin securely - again I have no problem with this. The Shell scenario was unusual because it used cloned cards (the mag strip part) and pin numbers, similarly atm fraud using mag strip info and pin numbers was also very 'specialist' and not the norm.
So in summary, most disputed transaction will be paid unless the bank can show that some form of security (either chip or pin) was used in which case quite rightly they will dispute the alleged fraud.0 -
but this system was supposed cut card fraud.
not cut card fraud and pass the rest onto the customer.
banks are so high and mighty but the real lapses come from them . are my paying slips going in a black bag around the corner ???? like watchdog exposed last week. what about the Barclays fiasco with the online security ( well they are Barclays aren't they )
i think you need to cut your ties with HSBC and close down this account as fast as possible there is obviously a big problem somewhere if you are on your 5th card!!!.
i have been victim of debit card fraud ( thanks to the massive DVD pacific fraud) but have only had one card change in 8 years
not saying you are the problem but something is amiss here
try a better rep bank like Nationwide or Smile then get a very low limit credit card for internet transactions ( £500 maxium ) and be extra carefulBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
well it seems to me if there was a known fraud that the bank admits is fraud, and at the same time in the same country another attempt which the bank claims is not fraud - then the Bank is being very unfair. Dont tell me, the 2 they admitted were small, the other is a large amount.
I think you should fight this.
