  • Sounds like your keyboard layout has changed - (in xp) go into the my computer > control panel > regional langauge settings > and then check in every tab that the drop down boxes show English (United Kingdom)

  • Hello Sophie

Sounds to me like your keyboard is set up for US or International mapping.

If you want geek (yu have been warned ;) ) info about keyboard layout then have a look at...
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#US-International

If you just want to know how to reset it then follow the below instructions...

    Cheers
    iptetbury ;)

    Assumption made:
    1. you are using Windows xp

    Instructions
    1. On your tool bar do you may see "EN"? If no then go to point 2. If yes then go to point 5.
    2. Right click anywhere on toolbar and select "Toolbars" from the pop-up list
    3. Select "Language bar" from the sub menu
    4. You should now see "EN" on your toolbar
    5. Left click on the "EN" and select "English (United Kingdom)" from the pop-up list.

NB - if you do not see "English (United Kingdom)" as an option then you will need to tell your laptop that you are in UK. To do this you need to go into the "control panel" select "Regional and Language options" and then set "Location" and "Standards and formats" as English (United Kingdom).
  • Yay it's working!!! first I did the steps from MoneySavingGenius and changed the advanced setting from English US to English UK then the "EN" popped up on my toolbar. Followed iptetbury and finished it and now it's working again

    @@@ """ :T

    Thank you both :kisses3: :D

This can happen even if the regional settings say UK English. If so just change the keyboard to US English & back again.

It's a problem I've had in Excel when typing in dates (eg 11/01 becomes 1st November rather than 11th January)
