Really? My son has a US built Ford truck with a ten year/100,000 mile warranty, so they can't be that bad. My US built Nissan Altima was very reliable and had excellent build quality.
Thats because Nissan is Japanese, although built in the US, it will be built to Nissan design standards and tolerances.
In Western Australia, there are no Mot type tests until you want sell the vehicle, then you have to take it thru a safety check, and it has to pass before you are allowed to sell it on.
Also the police can make you take it thru a safety test if they feel its unroadworthy. There does seem to be a greater onus on the owner/driver to abide by these rules.˙ʇuıɹdllɐɯs ǝɥʇ pɐǝɹ sʎɐʍlɐ

Same applies to UK built " Japanese " cars, that was, in the case of Nissan, until Renault got involved with them.0 -
you can almost see the day of the week when Renault bought into them, when you look at reliability figures! Loads of people buy Nissan because their last one lasted 15 years, wonder if the new one will......0

What a good idea - although there's probably the same problem as here with MOTs done by phone, etc.0
