Just transferred my father over to Ebico from British Gas/npower. I'm no expert but I reckon his bills should be approx half of what they were under BG for gas. IRRC BG charge the first 1143kw of gas at the higher (5.22p?) rate each quarter. My father lives alone and is out of the house a lot of the day and he doesn't even use 1143kw of gas per quarter! Ebico charge a flat rate of 2.55p per kw of gas, so he'l be paying less than half of what he was with BG. Correct?
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!

I've moved to Ebico twice in 2 different houses, plus 3 friends have also moved and we are all pleased with the results (all were general domestic tarriff, not economy 7). Transfer was simple and predictable and the billing reliable via Southern Electric online payment (where you can view, print, pay bills etc all online and paperless).

Login and registration can be found here (yes it's a Southern Electric website, they manage Ebico billing)

Best of all they are still about the cheapest, they are a fair trade not for profit company (which is how it should be for the basics of life) and the simple single rate approach just makes life easy.
OK the elec rate depends on the region you are in, but they explain clearly why on the website at
    http://www.ebico.co.uk/en/open/pages/faqen.php#variation

    Hope that helps
  • Happy Ebico customer, no problems since switching was done. Which was painless apart from an incorrect meter reading, which was resolved with couple of short calls.

After two years of bills being cancelled and recalculated every time with my previous supplier (to achieve the minimum annual amount on the higher rate). The simple bill from Ebico which is not going to be arbitarily cancelled or replaced at some date in the future due to the flat rate unit cost is a relief.

Even when meter readings have been estimated they have been in line with my actual usage rather than wildly out in favour of the supplier, which has been my experience with all my previous suppliers in the last 10 years.

I decided to make the switch when Atlantic wanted to put up my D/D from £34 to £72. I knew £34 wasn't covering it but thought £72 was out of order. Search revealed EBICO to be my cheapest supplier and I was pleased to see that their website gave me the choice (effectively) of saying what i wanted to pay by asking me what my usage was. So I set it at £40 and have had no problems for the 4 or 5 months i have been with them.

You will be given the option to switch to paperless bills. I use SE's website to submit reafings and still get paper bills.

You have the choice to keep paper bills or you can setup paperless billing in your profile once registered. With paperless billing you can download a pdf version of your bill (and view with Adobe Acrobat reader which is freely
available) and print that if you need to.

There is also a "submit a reading" function, so you can correct reading estimates and keep what you pay in line with your useage.

been with ebico about a year for electric and had no problems, there was little info from southern about the switch but a phone call confirmed dates and meter readings.

last year (and i dont know about this year but it may be the same) they fixed their prices for 12 months and did not price rise througout that period, and when they did raise prices in sept. they were still cheap.

i highly recommend them, as they are non for profit it makes me feel like im less ripped off than i would be by other profit companies
