quick, possibly silly, question - scanning email attachments

Options
This probably sounds daft to you 'techies' but I don't know how to scan attachments in emails.

I've had a quick google but they just say through my av program.

I tend not to open ANY attachments in emails, just in case, but have been sent one re. a requested insurance quote and would like to scan it first before opening.

I have windows 7, avast and malwarebytes.

Thanks:)

Do you mean it does this automatically through realtime, or do I have to tell it to do a specific item?

    Thanks:)

Yes indeed it will, I was going to try looking on my other system to see how much integration there is but as luck would have it it's upstairs, and the dragon will melt it  Let's hope she sleeps well ;)

Yes it does, closed is correct, plus if you save the attachment you can then scan it again using either Avast or with something like Malwarebytes. Best case though is save the file first and scan for a second opinion using Malwarebytes or something else before you opening it or running it. Now go to bed, sleep tight don't let the bed viruses bite ;)

DCM (and closed) to the rescue again:T. Saving it was the answer I was after. By right-clicking the attachment and choosing 'save link as' I was able to download it to my pc and then right-click and scan it from there.
(just outlining what I did for any other 'non-techies' like me:D)
