£61 to £150 A MONTH CAR INSURANCE

Options
Hi all,

I just wanted you to feel my pain in regards to my most recent car insurance saga.

In October I was a named driver with 2 years cover and then in November I had to get my own cover and the best quote I have is for £1800 a year. The 2 years don't count for anything as a named driver.

I am weeping all over the laptop.

£1800

Insurance has gone up faster than the price of corn.

Why would you expect to get NCB driving on someone else's insurance, unless the Company specifically offered that. You hadn't paid anything so why would you be entitiled to any benefit.

Try contacting a broker to see what they are able to offer.
  • Suspect your previous policy was rated on your mum and/or dad as main user. That's the main reason for the price differential

Have you tried putting in a ROSPA/IAM qualification on your quote to see how much it brings down the price?

If you get a discount it might be worth doing some additional training (those I mention are charities and are very inexpensive).
I am suggesting you check a quote first to see the discount and change no other factors.
Of course you won't get the discount immediately as you'll have to take a test first which is likely to take circa 6 months, but it could be worth looking into for the medium/long term.

    .....YEAH!

Unlucky fella. Try comparison sites and also get some cashback - quidco etc to bring the price down.

You could also do 10 month insurance policies through admiral etc to get the No Claims built up quickly.

Mine is still about £400 despite having 6 years no claim bonus. Insurance is just expensive. Personally I would love to pay more on the understanding you could have, say half back if you didn't claim - not that it's going to hapen!
