SO.....

We moved into our new home on the 19th of November, rang British Gas to give them the meter reading and they switched the Gas and Electric over to our names. (Even though the Electricity was previously with nPower)

They quoted prices to me on the phone and said it'd be confirmed in writing. Now 6 days later they have wrote to me saying my gas price will increase . . . :eek: is it just me or does that seem a bit harsh in the first instance and appalling customer service in the second?

In the first instance, it's not personal - most of their tariffs are changing - they weren't waiting for you.
Why is it poor customer service? The agent completing the sale had no prior knowledge of the price rise?
For gas you can reject the price rise and move to another supplier, and for electricity if it has only been 6 days you can cancel still.
Look at the comparison sites and make the best call for you.
