Sound & Pic issues Virgin TV

Hi,

For a few weeks now, I've been having some sound issues on my Panasonic TV whcih is hooked up to a virgin V+HD box.

The sound is normal & then suddenly makes a high pitched 'squeaky' noise. The picture also gets distorted with little squares appearing/disappearing again in various places.

It has got worse over the weeks, and makes watching anything annoying as it happens so frequently-every few seconds now.

The TV & V+ are hooked up using a HDMI cable, and so I purchased a new one today, but is is still doing the same thing.

I don't believe it can be the TV as when I watch DVD's (through a scart cable), there are no problems. I also have 2 other virgin boxes, just the standard ones, & they work fine, so I don't think it can be the signal either.

Any ideas?

It could be to do with the HDMI input on the TV, but I suspect it's more likely to be an issue with the V+ box (possibly a weak/strong) signal causing the picture to break up, or it's HDMI/decoding is going.

If you can it's worth trying another HDMI device via the same port on the TV, otherwise give VM a ring and explain it's intermittent picture break up and they'll probably send an engineer out to test the signal levels/replace the box.

If you haven't done so already, try turning the STB fully off for a bit (say 15 minutes) then turn it back on, if the problem doesn't start happening for longer than usual it's almost certainly an issue with the box overheating/something failing in it.

Thanks, thinking about it, I can't remember it being as bad as this when I turn the TV on in the morning for the kids - It gets bad in the evening when I'm watching! Maybe it is overheating? I'll try & hook up my DS Xbox via HDMI tomorrow just to check. Cheers

I was getting the same thing you described. It was the grey Telewest branded V+ box so I phoned 150 and had them replace it with the newer Samsung V+. I haven't seen the issue since. Which box do you have?

Mine is grey and just has TV Drive printed on it? I have had it for a few years now. Virgin are sending an engineer out tomorrow. I hope they manage to fix it though-We have loads of stuff recorded that we haven't seen yet!
