after using beatthatquote.com for cheaper car insurance, i decided to go with ecar, after paying upfront they decided that i had lied about my licence, and threatened to cancel my policy 13 days into my cover, if i didnt pay another £900 on top of the £570 i had already payed. I can easily prove i didnt lie, and answered all questions honestly.
i decided to cancel, it took me 6 weeks to get a refund, after numerous emails! They refused to tell me how much of my money i would receive back. But to top it off, they deducted £240 for lying about my licence!!!
I'm going to take this further, any advice???
p.s. the reviews for ecar are really bad, avoid at all costs!

So what was the alleged lie. How could you prove you didnt?0

Let me get this right. People get the cheapest insurance they can find, and then it all goes tits up, and then they complain about it on the internet. What do they expect?0

Fair treatment is what people expect. Most people are looking to save money. I assumed all insurance companies had guidelines to follow, maybe I'm wrong.:mad:Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings

If you can "easily prove you didn't lie" why aren't you pursuing the matter with ecar customer services?
They will have a documented complaints procedure in place which you have to go through.
They must feel they have justification though, and if you can prove the facts easily why haven't you provided them with this straight away in support of your claim.
More to this methinks.....0 -

Hi,
ecar are claiming i lied about the amount of time i have held my licence, i have given them permission to contact the dvla is they wish to check, i have told them about the comparison site i went through, beat that quote.com where i answered all questions truthfully, yet they still won't accept this.
That is the easiest way to prove i didn't lie... i don't know how else to prove it. They just keep fobbing me off with silly excuses as to why they won't give me my money... i have never had this problem with any of my previous insurers...0 -

Or are you saying there was some kind of error by the comparison site where it was relayed incorrectly?
If it's the former then make a formal complaint and use recorded delivery (75p) to send the letter. Write to the address detailed in their formal complaints procedure.
If they don't agree then at the end you can go to the ombudsman who is independent. This will cost you nothing and it will cost ecar about £500.
If it's as straightforward as you say then they should cave in with your DVLA evidence when you make a formal complaint.
If there was an issue with the comparison site passing on false data then you will have difficulty here (unless you have printouts of screen shots).
You are sent paperwork to check and have a legal cooling off period to read it. It's your responsibility to read it and check it.
So if there was an error by someone else then it's still your responsibility to make sure it's correct rather than just accept the policy with the error.
Another route is the small claims court which would be quicker but may incurr a small cost.
The complaints process may be quite slow, but it's free for you (apart from paper and stamps).0 -
Not sure it's fair to say avoid them though - there's always a one off bad experience. Tesco's are reknowned for overcharging nut it doesn't mean we should all stop shopping there. There's obviously been an error either on your part or ecars part, but it's not fair to tell people to avoid a company based on what you say in this post.
We went with Ecar a couple of years ago and they were excellent. We had a bump in the car, however, and the premiums shot up so we moved elsewhere. I would wholeheartedly recommend them though tbh.I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -
I have checked ecar reviews on line in the past and I have to say they are pretty bad, but then again people are generally mostly to write reviews when they have had a bad experience. They were still worst than other companies.
I have lots of friends with ebike (same company group) and they are pretty happy. One friend had a claim and he was quite happy.
Experiences can vary hugely, so you have to be careful extrapolating experiences from one or a small number of experiences.0 -
I have to say I've been with Ecar Insurance for 2 years now and have just renewed this week. I've not had any problems with them as yet, although I've not had any claims so hard to pass any negative comments.
I do get a bit worried when someone who's had a bad experience goes on to then tell everyone to avoid a certain company no matter what.0
