SatNav... best options for handheld...

I am about to change cars. My old one has installed SatNav (Honda) which, quite frankly, is rubbish. I've opted to not have installed SatNav on the new one.

However, the actual facility is really useful in many instances. What I'd really like to go for is something like a Palm PC with SatNav software.

Any suggestions for the best solution? Budget is probably upto £400

Tx in advance...

A PDA, Tom Tom and a bluetooth GPS receiver.

going down that route allows future upgrades, if you buy a PDA with gps built in then if you buy a new pda then you have to buy a GPS one or replace the gps card, bluetooth means it can be used on the new pda aslong as it has bluetooth.
Tom Tom can be installed on most pda's as for which pda it the same as when buying a PC processor, and memory are the main things to look for but others include bluetooth, wifi ect that you may want in a pda.

The problem is that a legal version of tom tom costs about £137 including the tom tom gps receiver so your range of PDA is limited to £260 ish for your budget but they can be got for that. or for about £90 you can buy the software legally and buy a GPS off ebay but the saving may not be worth it if you want a decent quality GPS you cant get away spending about £40.

Another thing to consider is your new car, does it have a heated front windscreen? they screw up GPS signals, I had a problem in San Fransisco last year not doe to heated windscreen but he trolley bus wires over the roads you endup jumping from different streets as the signal cant get a fix.
  • Thanks Little John.

Have you considered the new TT One V2. I have one and they are very small compared to the original TT units. If you are hapopy with a dedicated GPS unit this might be worth considering. And they are sub-£200.
  • Thanks Joshm... however I'm thinking of going for the pda option bacause it gives me greater flexibility.
