  • Everyone has their own idea. Most of what you see on the net is crap and almost all in the shops. PLaces that advertise on TV are not really selling bedding (or sofas) but are simply giving you a near worthless item as a freebie for taking out their massive APR (internal rate) loans.

You won't get a decent quality memory foam mattress for £100. And if you do find one then it will most likely be a cheap, low quality import from China, that could contain dangerous chemicals, and won't comply with European standards.

For £100 for a double the best mattress you would get would be a middle of the range open coil sprung mattress.

I know what you are saying but all the ebay ones i have seen the sellers are claiming -even guranteeing that they meet all legislative safety requirements and highest quality - and all sellers have positive feedback- maybe i am not looking deeper than the sellers descrptions?
Even so regardless of price -what should be the ideal memory foam spec?

Well it is impossible to tell just how much of what they say is true. It could even be that the foam is imported, and then assembled in the UK.

It wouldn't be possible to make a good quality memory foam mattress for that price, and still make a profit on it. They are selling them for cheaper than many companies sell reflex foam only mattresses, which makes me suspicous. I notice that they don't mention the density of the memory foam, and this is usually an indication that it is very low.

Also have you read their returns policy, which breaks distance selling regs?

If you can afford to waste £100, then take the risk. But I personally think that for the price you would be better off going for a decent open coil sprung mattress. There were similar mattresses being sold cheap under the Highland brand, but there were loads of complaints about them.

Regarding "Also have you read their returns policy, which breaks distance selling regs?" could you clarify please- as companies always find loopholes and technicalties to justify their policies
Ebay should be made aware of it
Don't want a coiled mattress - as i have a single topper and pillows and i prefer them

They say that the buyer is responsible for returning a faulty item. This is against distance selling regs, as the seller is responsible for the collection and return of faulty goods.

They also say that only goods that have been delivered faulty can be returned. Under distance selling regs you can change your mind at any time up to 7 days after delivery. Although with mattresses once you have opened it and slept on it, then with many sellers you can't return it.

If you like memory foam, then I would wait until you can afford a better quality one, rather than rushing in and buying one that is very cheap (probably for a good reason).
  • About the.

"They say that the buyer is responsible for returning a faulty item. This is against distance selling regs, as the seller is responsible for the collection and return of faulty goods."

That isnt really true tim unless it is bed specific as many companies say you return it and its your responsibility to return it in a sellable condition i.e not unwrapped if your returning it using the distance selling reg. So you usually end up paying for returning it and making sure it gets to them in the same condition they sent it out in.

The DSR law specifies that you can return it any time within 7 days which is true. But i duno about how you can get away with the hygiene statement with your company tim because almost any other company wouldn't let you return it as it has been opened and used even within the DSR law. But if he/she doesn't open it and just thought hmm changed my mind then yes DSR should ensure full refund minus cost to send it back as its the users fault for ordering it not the company's, if they didn't want it.

You stated before about these types of mattresses as any top !!!!!! or harry can make as all it is is reflex foam and some mem foam on top, which im guessing the mem foam is near 80 quid for the top bit and 20 quid for the reflex foam. Although i dont really know the costs but toppers can be like 80 quid and reflex foam well its just cheap stuff aint it so shouldn't cost much, ok maybe not 20 quid maybe 30-40 i duno their just guesses.

Ive seen and tried a mattress like the one he posted when i was hunting for a bed few months ago their nice they don't squish down much when u sit on the side which i thought was nice and very supportive. But 300 quid this shop was saying they cost and i thought ha no thanks its just a lump of foam with some mem foam on top. I thought id build my own cheaper and glue a topper on some foam and only be 100 - 150 ish lol. But then i cba to do that plus i didnt like the thought of reflex foam and fanied pocket springs (which is how i went with buying my new bed).

So kinda could see a company selling em cheap like that but perhaps little too cheap as they wont make much profit if any if they did what i thought i could do. Id expect 150 not 100 ish. So yeah be careful if u do buy from that person as kinda does sound a little dodgy but then again it could be a right bargain i.e they want rid of old stock for somit new, it happens with other things so cant see why not for beds etc.

Hmm checking their feedback, they have bought not sold 122 things so their feedback for selling is just 208 (says 229 tho for some reason). Now in their description they state they have been around ebay since 2004 so thats 6 years and just sold 208 items. Which seems low for such a long period imo.

I read a negative feedback and was due to them billing the customer an extra 12 quid for p&p on top of the 98 quid for the same item your thinking of getting.

    http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=mad4mattress&iid=-1&de=off&items=25&which=negative&interval=180&_trkparms=negative_180

Check their positive feedback, 1" mem foam for double for £4 using auction method was sold. a 2" double mem foam topper was £39 quid not sure of method, seems too cheap even netto wouldnt be able to sell them that cheap. **just read this sec while writing this and netto does and was cheaper actually lol http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/memory-foam-mattress-topper-double-/550313 tho duno the depth of mem foam and if it was proper mem foam** Edit again **the netto ones were 2.5cm according to the comments so not even worth it**
