Tesco clubcard credit card

I've had a tesco card for about 4 years (my first ever credit card lol). My credit limit is only £250 and I've been known to do daft things like pay the bill twice so I never have any charges and sometimes my account is actually in credit.

2 years ago I changed my surname by applying to the registrar general (that's how it's done in scotland) and I've since changed my name on my passport, my bank accounts, all my other credit cards, at work, with the DWP, HMRC and everywhere else all the way down to my facebook page.

I have called Tesco Personal Finance no less than 40 times over the last 2 years, sent 7 letters and made a complaint to their regulator all trying to get my name changed. I've sent in copies of my passport, bank statements etc and they wont change it.

Last time I spoke to them I was assured that my next card would be issued in my new name, it arrived this morning and alas, it's in my old name. Phoned TPF and they told me they have no record of me changing name :mad:

Very frustrated, because the name on my card isn't my name I can't use the stupid thing in case the chip and pin doesn't work and I need to provide another form of ID!

Thinking of cancelling the account and telling TPF to ram the card up their backsides, how hard is it to change a name?

Tesco Customer Service are clueless. They are trained to make your blood boil and not one of them seem to run from the same rule book. Id just ditch them you can get pretty good card deals nowadays anyway.

I have had a similar(ish) problem with changing the name on my Tesco CC after I got married, I phoned and was told to take my original marriage certificate and a photocopy to my local store and ask a manager to countersign the copy and send it in with a covering letter, surprisingly enough it got sent back and I was asked to send the original certificate in. When I phoned to find out why they didn't accept the copy I was told that none of their staff would have told me that, it must be the original that I sent. I haven't bothered as once the balance is paid off I will be cancelling it anyway.

You know it's funny, I've never been able to get any help whatsoever in the store - they said it's a completely different company!

In a sense it is. Tesco Stores LTD and Tesco Personal Finance LTD are owned by Tesco PLC. Due to FSA rules etc, instore we don't receive any training with regards to Tesco Bank products, except how to show where the phone number is on a leaflet and process a travel insurance purchase. Since we aren't trained financial advisors, we aren't able to give any advice on the products.

Tesco, don't you just hate them?

Years and years ago I had a Tesco credit card. Card was in my name and my husband had an additional card in his name. The statements were in my name. I paid the bill.

I closed the card after finding a better deal somewhere else and then Tesco re-vamped their club card and I started getting my club card vouchers in the format Mr.R Pimento and Mrs K. Pimento (him first then me). I called Tesco to tell them that in fact, it was my card, had nothing to do with my husband who never went into a Tesco store unless he was on bag carrying duty with me and coule they please remove his name from my vouchers and they told me they couldn't because we were in their system from when we had a Tesco credit card. I said "Fair enough if that's the case, but please put my name first."
Sorry, they said, can't do that either.

It's not even as if he's first alphabetically. They only had his name first because he was the man. Grr.

I had a very similar thing happen when I banked with Smile. One evening the phone rang and I answered. A voice asked for my husband so I just passed the receiver over to him. At which point Smile tried to sell him a pre-approved personal loan for £12000 on MY account (his name is second and he only has a card to draw cash and doesn't actually pay any money in). You wouldn't like to hear what I said to them when I called them back.
