Savings box

Can anyone recommend a saving box, tin, bottle etc that is nigh-on hard, or impossible to open without smashing it to smithereens?

How about this £2.99 terracotta piggy bank from Hawkins Bazaar ? Comes with a little hammer to smash it open.

    Thanks.

Site is down, but will try later.

I have a feeling it's smaller than what I'm looking for. I was thinking more along the size of those big savings tins you buy; the ones you need to open with a tin opener!

Guess I wasn't clear. I wanted something that was harder to open, preferably glass.

Plastic container - drop (non-paper) money in, top up with water, stick in the freezer, repeat until full...
  • When I was a young lad, my parents found me something that was perfect for this. I had a shilling pocket money (not bad in those days) and they went to great lengths to provide me with a money box from which it was impossible for me to get money out.

It took the form of a little black box, with a slot in the front, and it was under the stairs. It had some interesting little dials and numbers on it too.

I think you might be thinking of terramundi pots. Big vase like structures made of earthenware, with a slot for money. You need to smash them open to get at the money.

You could google them, but try this for ideas:

Not a recommendation as I have never bought from them.

  • Have you tought about opening an account with Santander ?
Some folks on here reckon that it can be pretty hard to get your cash out of them sometimes.
  • Find a hole in the floorboards and push it between so you have to take up the floor to ever recover it
