SMP & Tax

Hi, i need some advice on tax on SMP, not sure if this is the right section... so apologies if not.

i am now on Maternity leave waiting to pop, i know i will get taxed on the 90%/ 6 weeks which is fine, but do we get taxed on the SMP of 123 a week?

i just wondered, as my job is commision based, low basic but high commision this year, i may have already earned over 40K this year, does this mean my SMP will be taxed at 40%?

just trying to budget and can't find the answer anywhere :(

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Your SMP is taxable income, whether you pay tax on it or how mutch will depend on your tax code and your income/tax paid, so far this year. Without exact figures I cannot give an axact answer, but you will still have your tax allowance to set against the SMP so if for example your code is 647L then for each week 124.59 of your earnings would be tax free. If you have paid 40% tax some of this may be paid back to you; again cannot give exact details without full info.
