Right, first you need to understand that I am totally not techie at all:o and that explanations will need to be in plain English for an old lady:D
I currently have over £200 worth of Tesco Clubcard points and want to double these up in their exchange to put towards Laptops for my sons for Christmas (wouldn't normally give them quite that much but is too good an offer to miss imo) and Birthday (present to be all they get for both iyswim:o).
Could I have some opinions on which one is the best of what is on the website up to about £400 each please? They did have a Toshiba at £399 which I had decided was the one I wanted but that seems to have gone now so I am completely at a loss as to which one to buy. They will only really use them for homework, MSN, Facebook and my youngest wants to be able to play Evony and Runescape on his as well.
Many thanks:)
ETA: Actually, the one I thought I wanted was the Toshiba C650-15Z T4500 3GB,

but this has gone up from £399 last week to £429 this:eek::( Is there anything else as good as this one (or better) for a little less please?

I wouldn't ever be evil enough to recommend a piece of hardware (other than an xbox 360) which runs on a Windows OS...0

It's got the same CPU as the Tosh, 1GB more memory, 180GB more HDD, and an LED screen compared to the Tosh's LCD screen.
Thanks for this, I did originally look at that one and think it might be good value: however, on asking one or two people who are more computer savvy than I they said that Lenovo were not great at all, and that their customer service stinks:eek: Mind you, I am aware that everyone seems to have their own personal favourites and often axes to grind with other companies, but since I really haven't heard of Lenovo it feels a large risk, and I came to the conclusion that sometimes less can be more.
I'm happy to be corrected if anyone feels I've been seriously wrongly advised though:)"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

I find the whole process of trying to buy computer equipment when I know nothing about computers or the best makes, etc. to be an evil and anxiety ridden horror:o
Now, I did say that I was totally not tech savvy:D I assume that means the Lenovo runs on Windows OS and that you think it is a bad buy?"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

Paraphrased from Wiki:
Lenovo is a Chinese based firm, first on the scence back in 1988. Lenovo bought IBM in 2005 for approximately $1.75 billion.
In 2009, Lenovo was the fourth largest vendor of personal computers in the world.
The company is the largest seller of PCs in China, with a 28.6% share of the China market.
I'd agree with all of the following posts (found doing a quick search of this forum):Not particularly.
Apple and Lenovo make the best laptops.
If I wanted something cheaper, I would probably be looking at Dell.BillScarab wrote: »You could have a look at Lenovo. They're a chinese company who bought IBM's Laptop division a few years ago. IBM always had a reputation for building very good quality laptops witht he Thinkpad range. Lenovo seem to have continued that, I'm not sure what the rest of the range are like though but they may be worth a look.BillScarab wrote: »Lenovo are pretty decent generally.mjakes1982 wrote: »And I second BillScarab with Lenovo - not always pretty, but very reliable
It's a fantastic laptop for the money, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it myself if I needed one in addition to my current laptop.0
