Motor insurance abroad?

Anyone any experience of organising car insurance when spending 5 months in France with a UK reg. car?
How much did it cost and which company?

If you are happy with 3rd party only in France, you get that as standard with all UK insurance policies.

If you want cover at comprehensive level, then shop around, I'm sure some of them give up to 6 months fully comp EU cover as standard included in the policy but you'll probably have to pay an admin fee when you set off, about £15 Don't remember which one it was but you will have to look up and read all their policies online.

Prudential, Nationwide, Tesco, Directline, Cornhill, Swift cover, Aviva, Admiral, Privilege, and any other you can think of.
    I'm sure there's another beginning with 'P'

Saga (50+) cover 12 months in EU at fully comp. No extra charge. Don't know any other company that does this.

Don't forget that any policy issued in UK must give minimum cover in any EU country for full 12 months.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

Thanks, previously we have had French cars insured with French insurance companies but when we go next year we want to take our new, 3year old, car which is UK registered. Have been in touch with a couple of companies but not found one to give reasonable fully comp insurance for a long stay in France so asked here.
Thanks Bryanb, hadn't thought of them.
