Installing Office 2010

Options
As hubby bought himself a new laptop (only because I have just bought a new desktop and he was jealous!) and needs Office, I have bought a three license Office 2010, so that I can take advantage of an upgrade too (it was only £10.00 more than the cost of the keycode for the trial version on his laptop).

Should I uninstall the Office I currently have before installing the new version, or can I just over write it? I currently have Office 2007,and I know that there is not much difference, but I might as well take advantage.:D

Its always better to uninstall the old version first, before installing the new one.
  • Thanks for that. I did think that I ought to, but a friend's husband who teaches computers said I didn't need to. Glad I did uninstall first though.
Have to say that, although very similar to Office 2007, there are a few differences in 2010, and I find it a bit more user friendly!

Thats nice to know. I've currently got 2007, and would love to upgrade at some stage.

No need to uninstall 2007 first. As part of the install you will be asked if you want to replace the old version or install the new one alongside.

I've just started using 2010 and like it much better than 2007.

A fresh install is often better though.

Isn't this covered in the instructions that came with Office 2010?

No system restore discs as my pc was built for me locally with only Windows 7 installed (I have the W7 disc). I like to do a full clean re-install of windows every so often. I do back up files weekly though onto an external drive.

Thanks to all for your help.:T
