Insulation

Need insulation for new extension and requirment on plan states 270mm min - I have looked at types on wicks (like the ones on offer 1 and get 3 free) and most say top up insulation not suitable for new builds. Do i need rock wool or is the wicks stuff suitable?

Thanks

  • Assuming you're talking about loft insulation to use in your roofspace, not cavity wall insulation, then the reason it says it's not for new builds is that the energy companies subsidise the cost. For a new build you're supposed to buy it at full unsubsidised price.

If you're a homeowner buying a few rolls for your extension, who's to know it's not going in your loft?
  • Ahhh I see

It need to go between the rafters before i plaster board, it needs to go into the roof space as there is no loft, there is the standard stuff but also space blankets - Is one better than others???

what exactly do the plans say? there should be much more information than just saying 270mm min - 270mm min of what?! there should be some information on the specification of the insulation, if the stuff from wickes meets the spec then it's fine, if it doesn't get some stuff that does meet the spec
