Cashing in a Life Insurance Policy

My father-in-law died in February this year. He had a life insurance policy. We have been advised to cash in this policy. However we have been told we need the solicitor who couter-signed the policy to sign ir again in order to cash it in.

The problem is the solicitors firm has now gone out of business and we can't find the lady who countersigned the policy anywhere. Internet searches have proven fruitless.

Can we get someone else to sign the policy so that we can cash it in? What would be the procedure as I do not have much knowledge about these things?

Who was the executor of the estate?
Was the policy in trust? if so, who are the trustees?
What type of life assurance policy is it?

The only information I have is that is that it is Joint Barcleys Life Assurance (Life Stages it was called in 1995)

It was joint between my father-in-law and my mother-in-law.

We have a payment instruction form from Barcleys, but Barcleys have told us we need the counter signiture of the solicitor who is the trustee (the lady we cannot find.)

I guess we need my mother-in-laws signiture and the trustee. Can someone else sign on the trustees behalf?

The Law Society can probably help you track down the solicitor or whoever has taken over their business.
