My 'I can do this, and this time I mean it' Diary

Options
Having started trying to pay off my debts and failing a few times, I thought starting a proper diary would help me.

Current Situation

I am a newish single parent of three children - 9,4 and 2, I work P/T in a supermarket.

My Debt currently stands at £6,627.92, but I am aiming to be debt free by what would have been my 5th Wedding Anniversary - 14th March 2012.

Let the Debt Busting begin!

  • If I can pay off the debt by being really, really clever I am going to take the children to Florida in the summer of 2012, so wish me lots of luck :)

  • Well I have finished the Christmas shopping for the children and I have only 'spent' £57. Managed to sell some old toys which coveres DS1's Lego castle, amazon vouchers (from Nectar points) for DS2's indoor trampoline and DS1's Wii game. £4.00 on Ebay for a 'Boots' doll (from Dora the Explorer) for DD and a HappyLand castle which I paid £16 for instead of £24. A few more little bargains from Ebay mean happy children without spending a fortune.

Good luck, every step takes you another step closer to your goal!
  • Well I have started the ball rolling - £10 off my Very debt (Its the biggest and by far the most expensive). I am at work tomorrow morning and I am going to take in a sandwich instead of buying from the canteen.

  • Morning all,

Paid £15.64 this morning so I feel like I am getting the ball rolling reducing the debt.

Joined the selaed pot challenge and am hoping to get £500 saved by the end of 2011. Did my online shop and only spent £65, then had a £9.00 off voucher - think thats the lowest I have ever spent(though mainly because I stocked up on nappies already). Will be getting my Slow Cooker out again and using that most days.

    Morning,

Woken up to snow this morning - the children are happy but I am not. Means another day of heating. I normally have a rule that it doesnt go on until December the first but I had to give in yesterday as even with two jumpers on I was freezing.

DS is supposed to be going to a birthday party today but will have to see if the buses are running - we live on a hill and when it snows they dont come up here.

Got my statement from Very this morning - the interest added on the account is £65.54 :eek::eek:.I had to buy furniture for this house when I moved in as I had nothing, but I need to get the balance down on this asap! I was going to try and pay off my little debts first, but I am changing tack and throwing everything I can at this debt. I love my spreadsheets so will see if I can jiggle my numbers round and see what other money I can release to this debt.

Well done for starting the journey. Its horrid when you get somewhere and the it all reappears as interest. Just don't give up x
  • Well done !! Seems like you're on the right track. Keep strong and just think of that holiday !! Maybe stick a picture of the Disney Fairy Castle on the fridge to keep you motivated !!!

Good luck with it. You sound very positive and determined. I agree with the change of tactic too. Get shot of that interest as soon as possible for sure. Stay positive and don't lose heart.
