Hi all.
My son wants to try and sell some of his original artwork via a website and I've offered to help him.
Given he's not likely to make a massive amount of money from this, can anyone suggest either
1) A cheap hosting company, that will do the whole thing.
2) Some cheap individual companies that are good/cheap at the different parts - i.e. domain reg, web hosting, web site tools etc.
He only needs a small site (8-16 pages), and the one thing I feel fairly confident in is the money side - i.e using https://www.2checkout.com to collect credit card payments with.
Does anyone have some good ideas?

I'm with Heart Internet which is about £36pa and have a good level of customer service. Some of my friends have just signed up to Stream Line Net at http://www.streamlinenet.co.uk/, and this costs about £14pa but as yet am not sure about the level of service, which might be quite important if you're not a confident user.
You'll be able to pick up a generic domain name for free at various sites, i.e. joeblogs.genericname.com, or can get cheap ones from about £3 from places like https://www.1and1.co.uk.
Alternatively, see your pm.

I'm with GoDaddy for my hosting (for my web design business) and pay roughly £18 a year for their basic hosting package. (5GB storage, 250GB bandwidth, 500 mailboxes, 10 or so SQL databases). Stability is excellent.
My .net domain from them is around £6 (although it will be less when I renew it, because I'm turning domain privacy off).
I also have the .co.uk domain from 123-reg (PIPEX) and it cost £6.09 for 2 years.
1and1's domains are slightly cheaper than 123reg (and you can get Quidco cashback too) but they would take neither my Visa Electron nor my Maestro.0 -

If he can wait he can get a free one of Microsoft Office Live. Its in the beta stage and if he picks the basic one its free forever.0

Has he considered an Ebay shop for £6 a month plus listing/selling fees? The trouble with having your own website is that you have to market it so people can find you. With Ebay, you have a ready made audience. Selling artwork is a specialised subject, however.0
