Does anyone know the best/cheapest way to get the following:
A phone number with a different area code to mine (just a number, not a line rental)
The above number to automatically transfer to a mobile number (that we already have)
Thanks in anticipation...

You could try Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/features/allfeatures/online-number/)
I doubt you'll find a free way of doing this though.0 -

bump...
can anyone help?0 -
yep skype can do that, you rent a landline number (you choose the area code) that will ring your skype account either on your phone or PC but you can set it up to instead ring a number (such as a mobile or your landline) but that will also cost you a little money.0

I use

3.00 per month, then 12p per minute (per second billing) for calls that get diverted to your mobile. They have an interface where you can set up voicemail to kick in (good for out of hours if you are using it for business). The voicemails can get sent to your email as a sound file attachment.
They also do a fax to email service which works a treat.
not the cheapest but I have had NO issues with them in the year since I started0 -
I can use a free sipgate geographical number and receive the calls on a smartphone - free.0
