MSE News: Big freeze triggers cold weather payments

  • Thank you, due to this thread I am going to apply for previous winters on behalf of my parents. Do enough people realise that over 80s can get £400 if they live alone, even with a spouse who may be in a care situation? Check up, it is worth it.

  • Incidentally, surely wind chill should be a factor in calculating triggerfor payments.

    Here today we have zero centigrade and wind speed of 28mph giving wind chill of about minus 10.

    I can guarantee it is much more difficuly to keep a house warm in these conditions than if outside air temperature was minus 10 centigrade with a low wind speed.
  • I live in Stevenage and I checked yesterday and yes, it says that we should be receiving a payment for the period ending November 28th.
