cashback or cash machine??

The main risk of getting cash back is not the risk of card clones, or ID fraud it is the fact there is less control on the notes being dispensed.
Plenty of forged notes about, its about the only time you stand to get £20s from a shop unless you pay with £50s, I've seen a few faked £20s about here in the last few weeks.
Still a lot of smaller shops refuse to take £50s on the basis of been scammed passing £20 notes.
When getting cashback/change I always check throughly what I get given, where as most don't question what they are given, but you can only trust it as much as the last person that paid with those notes.
I have known of only one instance of someone getting fake money from a cash machine, but change from shops, regular occurance.0 -
Hi, That's how I have operated for years, except I use HSBC outside ATM.As my wife does shopping and ATM, I wondered wether cashback would have been safer. The advantage with cashback is you have your money handed to you, not wondering if it is going to be gobbled up.I remember Shell, but this was not cashback, it was a huge scam.Nothings 100% safe, just trying to reduce the odds+ there.s a glut of fake notes about, and if you are able to spot one with cashback, you can ask them to change it. ATM, you have lost it, no comeback.
You can return them to the atm operator and they will replace them, its as unlawful for them to dispense fake notes as it is for you to try and spend them yourself.
I suspect if it was more than just one though they would be less accomadating and question that it just happened.0 -
I think getting cashback from the till at the supermarket has to be the safest way of getting cash other than walking into the bank yourself !
Can you get cashback with a credit card and/or a debit card?
Do banks/supermarkets add a percentage on the cashback as a 'handling fee'???It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -
Debit Card cashback is widespread in supermarkets, they don't need to add a handling fee - they benefit from reduced bank/security charges which would otherwise be incurred if they simply banked the cash. Can you get cashback with a credit card and/or a debit card?

While both can make mistakes, from my experience the average bank cashier is more likely to make a mistake than an ATM.I guess it depends if you consider a machine or a human to be most reliable/infallible0 -
Any cash transaction with a credit dard incurs charges, debit doen,t.Also, I ,ve been informed by a " tiller," @A " M"ajor supermarket,if they take a fake note, it,s deducted from their wages, so I presume there is an incentive to palm it off to a cashbacker/or in change.I have had a couple of fakes from ATM, and had to stand the loss, not from bank ATM though. Most atm,s are privately owned and operated, the banks sub it out.Can you get cashback with a credit card and/or a debit card?

Since when have banks been bothered about the law, except the law of the jungle; You obviously haven,t tried to convince a teller that the forged not/es in your hand came from their machine. They should, because they should note the numbers of the notes loaded.Try and get a receipt for cash deposited. They are a law unto themselves.:rotfl:You can return them to the atm operator and they will replace them, its as unlawful for them to dispense fake notes as it is for you to try and spend them yourself.
