After seeing someone on here had spent £50 on Anti Virus software hubby wanted to post some info on how to download free Anti Virus and other security tools.
He owns his own pc business so he knows his stuff. We hope it is useful for some debt free wannabee's.
*FREE Antivirus - Great product, not got all the extra bells and whistles but it does what it says on the tin, and doesnt slow down your PC like Norton and McAfee.
AVG FREE available at https://www.free.grisoft.com
Also available at the same site is their FREE Antispyware program which is a must.
*Ad-Aware Personal SE - FREE Antispyware Program, always run more than one to be safe!!
Goto https://www.lavasoft.com and download Ad-Aware Personal SE
*Spybot - FREE Antispyware program, again use it with the above.
Goto https://www.safer-networking.org
*CCleaner - System Cleanup tool, removes all rubbish abd hidden files you dont need and all the "Crap" that gets left behind, will also clear internet history and cleanup details that you may have entered eg. bank details.
Will reclaim lots of valuable disk space. Also fixes errors on PC.
Goto https://www.ccleaner.com
*ZoneAlarm - FREE basic Firewall.
Goto https://www.zonelabs.com goto the HOME and HOME OFFICE and choose ZONEALARM for the free version
With all these programs installed your PC will be a safer place!
Remember they are great programs, but there are still others out there you can pay for with lots more features, but hey who needs lots of features they dont use?

You need to be a bit careful, I have been told that some Anti-Virus software can react negatively with others. I can certainly reccomend the AVG free edition from grisoft, make sure you update it regularly, though.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I've just replaced Zonealarm with Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall
This is a free firewall, though there is a pay to use version as well.

yes they can... firstly then you should only ever run ONE antivirus software (by this I mean one firewall and one software that has a real time scan for viruses - you can get an all in one or 2 seperate programs) on your machine. The reason for this is that more often than not they are trying to carry out the sae function and can end up blocking eachother. Most highstreet AV software will infact not install if you have another AV software installed to prevent problems.
I'll be upfront and say I work for an Anti Virus company and let you all make your own deductions, but when choosing security software please bear in mind which you choose and do your research. My advice is to choose a software which is at least produced by a company with a large corporate or paid for home user software. This means if they use the same virus pattern files you are benefitting from the money invested in the virus detection developed for corporate or paid users.
Be aware that there if often little if any official support with any problems you may encounter. Don't get me wrong there are loads of forums out there that will help you if you need it, but you wouldn't have a real support team that supports neither the software nor in some cases the virus removals...
Free AV and security software is not a bad thingBut choose carefully and do your own research
And bear in mind that some AV software and firewalls MAY not work with all browsers and mail client software.
If you want to ensure your machine is clean then use the free online scan tools regularly, all the big AV vendors seem to do them now and they are usually pretty good.
Anyway as I said I work for an AV company so you can believe what you like, but no matter what you decide on installing please always bear in mind having backups of any data you treasure. Including pictures etc - stick them on DVDs because if you do get a virus and the worst happens - you could loose the lot...
