Well my DH likes it, my 2 girls like it and now everything has been put back in the room and it has completely dried it looks good.

Good idea to wash over the walls Debt free chick. I was considering doing just that if i had really disliked it.

The colour we had before was heather mikeyorks. All we wanted to do was freshen the room up but when we went back to B and Q they had stopped making that colour. It does look very trendy.

Usually when we have painted before the paint has dried lighter she grinch. Now i know better. We did buy 3 tester pots and the colour we chose pale lilac was what we thought was already used. How wrong we were.

Your idea of buying a paler colour than the one you would buy is a great tip. Thanks for that tawnyowls.

I have learnt my lesson i think. It is darker than expected but not that awful that we can't live with it. Think it was just a shock at first. Thanks for all your replies they are much appreciated.

Hmmmm ..... after 6 coats on each wall, I do have other descriptions for the OH's 'heather'. Was very tempted to varnish over it and seal it on for life!

However - co-incidentally have just returned from B&Q with a tin of Avantgarde (Crown) .. in order the new conservatory matches the lounge. Now that is a nice colour - and a lot easier to apply than the 'shaken but not properly mixed' stuff, that cost me an extra week in the kitchen.

So when you want to do the lounge - just post here and a committee will come up with a colour for you!

Thanks for that Mike we have already done the rest of the house. Lounge a very sensible magnolia. I have had enough of painting for a while.
So what colour is Avantgarde then.

It's a very superior 'Home and Gardens' .... magnolia!!;)

No - seriously it's a very nice beige / mushroom (I'm told ... I only buy it and apply it). But must confess of all the colours I've been instructed to apply - it does look good.

Just Googled Avantgarde crown. It is a lovely colour.
Ummmmmmm wonder if my DH would like this kitchen in that colour.LOL
No seriously i love my my kitchen now but that is a very calming colour you have chosen there. Did you say your wife chose it. Tell her it's a good choice.

Not likely .... everyone else is telling her that. If I bump her esteem up even more - it'll be a copy of the Sistine ceiling for me in the lounge next. I'm laying up the paintbrushes / paintpads for a little while and pleading RSI of the wrist.

She thinks I didn't notice the surreptitious Crown chart into her handbag earlier today - so I guess that's the bathroom in prospect? It was only done just over 12 months ago but son came back from Uni shortly afterwards and, in his inimitable style, managed some run marks down the wall when he used the shower fitment on his hair. What he thought the separate shower cubicle in the corner was for - only someone his age could explain. The marks only show up when there's a bit of steam in the room - but I guess it needs fixing? And no marks for guessing who does that.

Well Mikeyorks all i can say is i know the feeling. Teenagers are very good at destroying the place.
The problem with decorating is you paint one room then the next one looks shabby. By the time you have painted the whole house you are back to square one again.
Your wife is lucky that you will do the painting for her. I do help my DH when i can. He is getting so fed up with D I Y. Sounds like you are too.
With bit of luck we will have finished all our decorating soon. Just glad we have a small house.
