Hello,
For a family christmas project I am wanting to edit some video footage (mainly MP4) - the editing requirements are quite complicated and I am hoping I'll be able to pull it off with some tinkering.
I will need to a) be able to truncate (or take bits out of the middle) of an Mp4 to shorten it b) join some bits together and c) possibly even just use the audio part as a "voiceover" whilst my own photos/video (without audio) is playing. On top I'll need to do the usual fade to black etc...
Am I best converting everything to avi then using some sort of editor or can I edit in MP4.
Also, would love to do this for free - is there some free software with quite a bit of functionality that I can use ? I am happy to spend time learning how to use it, would prefer this, than starting with something basic, and realising that it will only "go so far".
Thanks

you picked a good day to post on http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/ today they have Wondershare Video Studio Express 1.2.0 for free, it looks like you can do what you need to do with it too. You could always try using Windows Movie Maker as well if you haven't already tried. hth0

Thank you for this, there are some other recommendations in the review section also (along with a disagreement over whether you can add subtitles etc. - which I will need to do) so will give them a look over too.

You've probably done it by now but you can download a free full version trial of Corel Videostudio which is what I use for everything. You can cut, chop blend, do subtitles, shortern. all sorts0
