DLA re-assessment.

I have asked for my sons DLA to be reassessed as his difficulties have increased. Does anyone know if the reassesment will take the same length of time to process as a normal application?

  • Also, do they backdate to the day you ask for the reassessment if it is increased?

Any increase will be backdated to the date of request.

The decision can take as long as a normal application, it depends on what rate and components of DLA your son currently receives. Is he getting both care and mobility DLA or just one of them?

Were you informed that his award could be lost, stay the same or be increased before you asked for the supersession?

Yes -they did tell me that.

He currently gets MRC (he is 4 so no mobility yet) - however he is up in the night 2 or three times (every night), he still cant dress or feed himself, still in nappies, lot of sensory issues, receptive language delay means he struggles to understand most spoken language, motor development delay too.

  • I should add, the reason I am trying to see if he will get HRC is that he is seeing a private OT and SALT and these are eating up my savings at an alarming rate.

According to the guidelines I think he qualifies for HRC.

  • You could lose out DLA if you re-assessment as it not worth it !

He may get mobility (higher rate) if he's classed as severely mentally impaired and receives HRC.
