Digital camera's under £50-ish recommendations

Options
Hi everyone!

Xmas is on it's way and I'd like to buy my mum a digital camera as she has wanted one forever!

Now if i wanted a camera i'd know what to get... but for her i'm a bit stumped!

My budget is around the £50 mark, can go a bit higher for the right thing so don't mind (and can always go on the hunt for the cheapest deal ;) )

Can anyone recommend one that is fairly easy to use, not too fiddly (she has trouble with the feeling in one of her hands) so no tiny buttons and no touch screens (not that i'd get that for that budget anyway lol) nice big viewing screen (she has to wear reading glasses and normal glasses - not at the same time tho lol) and just easy to use...she not useless with tech but not brilliant either bless her lol (she'll kill me!!!)

Also... now this is something i'm struggling to find out when browsing through amazon etc... it needs to be compatible with her iMac, it runs OSX tiger(10.4?)...i don't want to get her something that she can use with her mac without having to upgrade to the latest OS.. not very moneysaving!

I think i'm too much of a gadget head to find something suitable for her... i like all things shiny too much and would pick something that she wouldn't be able use!!

Also... i don't want to get her a Nikon, i've had two in the past and while they're good for a year they seem to slow to a grinding halt after that - she's not one for standing waiting for a picture to take!!!

So if anyone has any recommendations that would be lovely!

(BTW - she's only 54 so not an old biddy... however much i make her out to be when she's got her reading glasses on :P)

I've got a Fujifilm 10.2 cheap and cheerful digital camera, I HATE IT!!!! so would say, not that one! They take AGES to take a photo and the quality just isn't great.

I got mine off ebay Tesco Clearance - Argos clearance also have them- they are reconditioned but you still get the full 12 months warranty. Mine looks brand new no marks or anything. You can get more for your money this way and a better spec camera. See what camera they have available then google for reviews or check Amazon.
If you are not happy with it when it arrives you can return or exchange.
    Hope this helps.

just something to consider, instead of looking for one compatible with a mac why not just get a memory card reader so she can take out the card and just pull the photos from that as i have always found that much easier than having to use the usually carp software camera manufacturers insist on shipping
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

oooh i never thought of that actually!!! To be fair she would just use iphoto if it was compatible and i think she would find that easy enough but card reader would be just as easy and you can just drag and drop straight in to iPhoto..and they're quite cheap so good plan thanks!!!:T

Consider a pocket cam such as Kodak Zx1 they can be had just under £50 ,need to get sd card ,rechargable aa batts and one click photo-they even make a noise "like a camera". The massive bonus is that video is just as easy!! Not great in poor light, 3mp photo-look ok, ... BUT so easy/convenient that your mum will use it and take out and about - only phone size.

    edit -see http://stuff.tv/review/Kodak-Zx1-review/

right still looking... decided that one with AA batteries would be best as she often goes camping etc and would prefer to just take spares with her rather than hoping her rechargeable battery would last...although i found a cracking one that came with a rechargeable on the ebay outlets that had a recommendation from someone with a child with problems with her hands - similar to my mum's problem

Looked at the kodak mentioned above..would really be too fiddly for mum, but thanks for the recommendation :)

lots of the ones in the ebay outlets are Samsungs...are they any good in general? I've never had one or even tried one out before

This is hard! The techie in me is screaming get the one with a proper rechargeable battery (and its a bargain!) but i can just picture mum saying she prefers them with normal batteries as its easier to get hold of spare ones when they run out!

Buy it and get a spare battery, you can get them from 7dayshop for a few quid.

My Panasonic camera takes about 400 shots on one recharge.
