2 radiators stone cold ....

The heating has just been switched on, and the house is nice and toasty apart from 2 radiators - 1 in the living room and the other in the hallway (both close to each other)
We've tried bleeding them to no avail and fiddled with the TRV's (they appear to be working and not stuck)
Any ideas what could be wrong?
I thought it could a couple of things
1. Sludge in the system - needs a power flush
2. Needs balancing, IE switching off all the other radiators and blasting the cold ones
3. TRV's are actually stuck in the closed position
We're going to call a plumber anyway, but if its a simple fix, we could give it a go ourselves

Does water come out when you bleed them?
Are they cold all over, or just tops/bottoms?
Is the supply pipe hot?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
water comes out fine when they were bled
they are stone cold all over including the pipes leading up to them (the pipes are boxed in, but usually you can feel the warm on the plasterboard covering them)
thanks0 -
Have you tried turning off the other rads and opening only these two?
Are the TRV's turning properly through the full range? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
The TRV's seem to be turning freely, haven't tried the turning off of the other rads yet - will try that tonight.
I think it might be a balancing problem, hoping that it doesn't need a power flush tbh!
Just for note - boiler itself is only a year old, I don't know if the plumber did a powerflush at the time of installation tbh - He was a bit of a waste of space!0 -
Ddi you check all radiators were working after the boiler was installed?0
-
yep.
After the boiler was installed, the two that are now stone cold were cold then.
The plumber came back, was at the house for about 20 mins and didn't get any tools out, just fiddled around and they worked.
They worked fine until we switched the heating off and now they are cold again ...0 -
In which case I'd definitely check the TRVs first. you can normally remove the head and check the pin is actually moving freely0

hubby has just informed me that what the plumber did actually didn't work and that he fixed the problem by draining the system and then refilling it ...
So back to the drawing board!0 -
Have you done anythign with the heating system or radiators other than turn them off using the TRVs? If not then I suspect its got to be a problem with the TRV sticking shut.0
-
no, done nothing else with them at all. I'm hoping it is just a sticky TRV! I don't want the £300 cost of a power flush!!!!!0
