Hello!
Can you help me please. Two months ago I got a new laptop and it came with 90 days free Norton 360 Security.
This is now coming to an end and I have seen on Amazon you can get aNorton Internet Security 2011 Performance Pack for £28 they say rrp is £59.
I can upgrade or buy Norton 360 Security for £39.
(Both for use with 3 computers which I want)
So my question is what is the difference between the two? Would I be OK getting the Norton Internet Security 2011 Performance Pack for £29 from Amazon or is it not as good as the Norton 360 Security.
It dosnt make sense to me when I read the details about them, I just know I need to have one!

well did you know you dont actually need Norton, as you can get totally free alternatives to all the services it provides, which in a lot of case's are actually better
anti virus - one of either Avira, Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials
Firewall - windows vista or 7 included one is usualy enough for most people, if you require higher protection you can get Online Armour, Comodo, outpost or Ashampoo free firewall
Anti malware - got to be malwarebytes anti malware although this is a on demand scanner only it is very good
parental controls - k9 web protectionDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Why norton?? Why not a free anti-virus?0

if you really want to pay for antivirus I would only pay for kaspersky (which you get for free if you have a barclays account)
whatever you choose if you are getting rid of norton be sure to run the norton removal tool as to completly remove it
kaspersky only £23 amazon0 -
I'd recommend the free version Avira AntiVir instead of Norton. Supplement it with (the also free) Spybot, SpywareBlaster, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and you should be pretty secure. Secunia PSI might help too - it looks for out-of-date software and security vulnerabilities on your PC and usually gives you a link to download and install the relevant update.
It's also a good idea to use Firefox instead of IE. If you use the NoScript add-on too, all web scripts will be blocked by default, which is great for security, but some people find it annoying to manually enable each website/domain.
I'd guess that you'd be better protected with the tools above and they won't slow your PC as much as Norton (unless it's changed recently!)0 -
Thanks for the advice. Im going to have a good read and research into what you say further...ie free anti virus...
However,
as I want to put it on my two teenage childrens laptops as well (18 and 17 yrs, one at uni) and as I am not a computer buff in any way nor are they I thought if I got the Norton it would be a lot more low-maintenance. ie put it on and leave it for the year.
Where as the free ones would we have to keep updating them and are they difficult to put on etc. |Thanks0 -
Free av is equally low maintenance.
download the free version below, install, register, and it updates automatically, is faster than norton with better detection

Installation as easy as ( if not easier ) than norton.
Another fan of AVAST0 -

Thankyou jayme1....I am having a good look at this one and thinking I might go for this one as you are recommending. Why is it though everyone seems to go for the Norton (well it seems to be the most well known one...) rather than this ?lesser known one or is it me not being computer savvy?
Thanks for the advice.0 -
" ...... ie put it on and leave it for the year." -. . . and then get another demand for money.
edit: 'cos norton pay pc makers to give a free trial to hook people in. Bet you've heard of Macrapee as well!
Eset gets good/best reviews but I bet you've not heard of it either0 -
No idea why people go for Norton. Probably the same reason they eat in McDonalds, drink Coke and watch X Factor.
Luckily I have a Mac, and have absolutely no need for virus checkingHope over Fear. #VoteYes0
