paypal grrrrr

right a few months ago i sold an X-box on ebay for about £80, i received payment through paypal, sent the X-box out.
A while later after i had got back from holiday i had got a complaint from the buyer saying they had not received the item, i knew i had posted the item out but stupid me through the proof of postage away whilst on holiday. i contacted paypal and they decided to give the buyer a refund leaving my account in arrears, then a few weeks later the X-box arrived at my house with a note saying buyer did not collect/want????
is there anything else i can do or was it just my fault for not having proof of postage, obviously i had spent the money by the time paypal refunded.

Not sure that proof of postage would have done you any good. PP would preumably require proof of delivery.

True the buyer has treated you bady (assuming it wasn't RM or whoever who screwed up) but I can't see there's much you can do now.

At least you've got the device back so you can put it up for sale again.
  • yeah it would have been even more gutting to have had the money taken and the X-box, i am in the process of setting up another account with paypal through a different bank account, they wont free ze my new account though will they as its at the same address in same name.

One thing I would add, if the item had been lost then a COP would have been bery little use. As Moglex says paypal require proof of delivery , which you did not have, and Royal Mail compensation would not apply as you didn't use special delivery or parcel post.

Regardless of whether you use paypal or not you *must* cover yourself against loss of item en route. If you don't cover yourself then this could happen again and next time you might be well out of pocket. Items over £32 must be sent by the correct postal method, it is for your protection not the buyers.

    OK, sorry I misunderstood.

It really is worth keeping a box or file near your PC for all the receipts, and I would suggest keeping them safe for at least 6 months, just in case!
