i have a 6 year old female chihuahua who i rescued. ive had her for a few years and she is so loving to me and people she knows (now) but hates everyone the first time she meets them, she constantly barks at them, and even if she hears a car, smells a fox, someone knocks on the door, hears or sees something she will bark, and bark and bark..and bark. she will not stop and its so annoying. i have just moved and now have neighbours. i dont want to upset everyone or get evicted. will a stop barking collar work (oh god, not the electric ones) but the spray ones? oh i tried a thing you plug in the wall which lets off soundwaves and she wasnt bothered at all by it.

I once rented one of the citronella ones as I had a Dane who was deaf, so barking was something she went through a stage of doing for fun as she couldnt hear herself (or me saying no... :rotfl:). Don't think it really worked but the house smelt lovely and lemony! :rotfl:0

It won't help your dog at all.
If she is scared then barking is a release of stress. You need to address the problem not the symptom.
Look to the APDT or UKRCB for someone in your area who will be able to help.A dog with a behaviour problem needs help not punishment.0 -
If you're home with her why not try Pet Corrector spray (its a red can of compressed air) it makes a hiss when you press it. My dog has ALWAYS freaked out at male dogs on walks (not the ladies mind!
and it has made walks very stressful as nothing worked till some kind soul on here recommended this spray I got from Pets@home and I use it immediately when he freaks out at a dog and it kind of shocks him out of it and we carry on. Now on walks I still take it (its also good to break things up if another dog has a go at him) and I rarely have to use it. The difference is amazing! Maybe try this at home. I have realised I will never play the Dane!
Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!!

I tried anti bark collars on my 2 german sheps about 2 months ago and they were absolute rubbish, didnt stop them one bit. Im back to opening the back window and screaming at them to shut up again.0

I've a rescue JRT who barks and barks, have tried the pet corrector spray but it didn't really do much good.
Have often wondered about the collars, so will wait to see if anyone
has anything positive to say about them.I am happy to receive responses to my posts, however I will ignore any that are flaming/trolling.0 -
I'm with Sarabe - you need to know *why* she's barking to solve it. Small dogs often resort to barking to drive away something that frightens them, so to use an aversive like a spray collar or a so called 'Pet Corrector' would only add to her conviction that the object of her fear is really to be feared, as now they make really bad things happen

IF it isn't fear, then rewarding her when she's in a situation when she may bark but doesn't can help. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
