How to get rid of a Disabled parking bay outside a house?

Friend's neighbour has a disabled parking bay outside their house. It is for their mum who is disabled. She has passed away over a year ago. Along the road it is difficult finding parking places. The neighbour does not normally park in the bay so in a way there is a parking space no one dare use. It is near a school and is regularly visited by traffic wardens.
What steps can my friend take to have the bay markings removed?

Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way

she can contact the council, but because the bay was never 'reserved' for your neighbour's mother, they don't have to remove it and may decide not to. If it's near a school it may be that the bay is potentially useful to a disabled child attending the school, or a disabled parent etcSignature removed for peace of mind0

anyone with a b/b can use it0

Although the bay would have been put there because of a disabled person living at the address, other people are right to say that anyone with a blue badge can park there.
However, in my experience if there is no longer a disabled person at that address, you can tell the council and they will remove the bay, the next time they are working in the area (can take weeks). But this is at the council's discretion, there is no right to do this, but they have done it in my street when notified that a disabled resident had died.0 -
These are not the same as other disabled bays, they are not legally enforcable because the council paint it but dont do the legal work because it costs so much so its very easy to have the bay removed.0

My friend had a disabled bay put down outside her house, she recently had her dla stopped and is appealing so is no longer allowed to use the disabled bay directly outside her own house she contaced the council 2 months ago to have it removed so she can park outside her house once again and is still wating to have it removed :mad:0

You dont need DLA to have a blue badge and its a blue badge that you need to park in a disabled bay, you dont have any right to park outside your own home, anyone can park their just as any BB holder can park in the BB bay, its not her bay and the council can just leave it their for other BB holders so I dont understand the angry smilie.0 -
Fron another forum
The bays act as advisory markings on the carriageway indicating that a disabled person lives close by and that space is the most convenient place for them to park.
The council has chosen not to cover such bays with a Traffic Regulation Order, therefore they are not enforceable but rather rely on people being community-minded enough not to park in the bays.
In addition the intention of such bays is to maintain a parking place for any bona-fide disabled badge holder to use, not just the applicant.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
The funny thing is the council came yesterday and removed the markings. Don't know who initiated the request.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

Round here if there are residents' parking bays marked, then the council won't allow a disabled space, claiming there is no need!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0
