Can we bring our own sweets into the Odyssey?

Taking my son and 3 friends to a show at the Odyssey at the weekend and trying to keep costs down. Does anyone know if they try to prevent you bringing in your own sweets etc? I remember someone on Nolan complaining that they had been searched and sweets confiscated but that was some time ago. There's a recession on and I'm hoping they're not as strict so that I don't have to fork out for too much overpriced stuff when we get there.

My son and daughter were at the Lady Ga Ga concert and they took all sweets and drinks off all and put them in large containers. Wonder how you stand if you want them back afterwards?
  • We weren't searched when we went to strictly in February though we didn't have any "contraband" with us.

They're really funny about bottles - when you buy bottles of water at the bar they won't give you the lids for them so you can't take away what you haven't finished drinking either.

If the show is so boring that you have to drug your children up on sugar for them to endure it then save even more money and don't bother going.

I don't see why not;) I did a few years back when I took my kids to Thomas the Tank Engine Live:T Good show it was too:D

Times are hard and its bad enough paying Odyssey ticket prices without having to pay their food prices too:o

As for searching you, just give the sweets to the kids to carry in:)
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

I understand the rule about the drinks - they say you can only buy their bottled water and they even take the lid off so that you can't throw it!! I was just wondering if they actually search people (esp kids) and if not, I could distribute the stuff among them on the way in. I know they'll probably search my handbag but they can just call that routine security I suppose. Not intending to drug them with sugar by the way but it can be a long evening waiting for a show to start and the price are horrendous.

I've only been there for one show, I remember our handbags got searched briefly. Maybe you could put the sweets in the kids pockets

i dont think ive ever been searched for anything ive been to in the odyssey, and even if they do search you i dont think they have the right to take anything off you, if you tell them that you dont plan on eating or drinking any of it, that you just happen to have it in your bag, they cant do anything, even if they dont believe you! unless if it an offensive weapon they have no right to take it off you. i used to work for eventsec, and the majority of staff arent even licenced to touch anyone at all, never mind take anything off you in your bag! we were told when we did have to do searches, we have to ask the person the bag belongs to to open the bag and show us whats inside it, otherwise we had to call the SIA licenced staff to deal with them if they refused, but that was only for football matches where there is a chance hooligans could bring weapons or fireworks etc in.
