  • Do you scour planning permission notices for works that have been approved and then contact the neighbours either side to win business ?

    Thanks Money London, very informative.

You seem to have misunderstood what a professional qualification is. In professional terms a degree just makes you a graduate or "trainee". What is your hourly rate for providing a graduate/trainee to act as a party wall surveyor?

The Property Ombudsman does not "regulate" firms they are just a dispute resolution service and Vincent-Brown does not appear to be a member anyway. Shame as it looks like you would keep them very busy.

It is good to know that your Director Mr Gold is a member of the CIOB (that is a professional qualification by the way) and the firm is classified as a Chartered Building Consultancy. Anyone searching on the internet from now on will know that they can pursue a complaint through the CIOB.

I still think it would be helpful if you answered some of the many complaints raised in previous posts if you really want to improve the image of your employers.

"Money London" has been busy refuting the VB complaints today over on Digital Spy forums too! What a busy internet day someone has had....! Hope she's well paid.

If you google Vincent-Brown the results are mostly forums with complaints about the firm, this one is number 2.

It would appear that someone at Vincent-Brown has gone down the list and added a post almost identical to Money London's trying to convince us that all these forums have got it wrong and they are really jolly nice chaps.

Good luck with that Money old bean.

So our next door neighbour has appointed a similar surveyor to act for them. We've now been asked for a sizeable fee.

However, they are about to sell their house. Would the contract with the surveyor cease when the house is sold and title moves to the new owner? Thus giving us an opportunity to settle this directly with our new neighbour without the need for a surveyor at all?
  • Hi,
I too have received a letter informing me that i need to appoint a surveyor as my neighbours have apoointed Vincent Brown & Associates. It is touch and go if the foundations are 3 metres away. Can i ignore it? What can be done?

Thanks in advance for ny help

Get a tape measure and find out definitively. Draw a line on the ground if you can. If it's > 3 meters away write them a letter stating that, that you're well aware of their shady antics and inform them that if they get in contact again you consider it harassment and report it to the fuzz. If it's < 3 meters you're in for a bad time.
  • Thanks, it all depends on how wide the trench for the foundations is. I've measured from the centre of the party wall diagonally to the corner where the extension will project and its 3.2m. Without knowing how much the foundation trench will encroach towards the party wall how will i knowif the party wall agreement is needed?

    Thanks in advance
  • Hi, How did this end up. Did you appoint someone else? did you end up paying someone else? How can the home owner be obliged to pay out on a contract that they didnt enter into?
  • I worked for them back in the day.
    Horrible.
